We came, we saw, we conquered

X-FILES

Mulder: We came, we saw, we conquered. And if the taste of victory is sweet, the taste of virtual victory is not Sweet ‘N Low, nor the bullets made of sugar. Maybe out past where the imagination ends our true natures lie, waiting to be confronted on their own terms. Out where the intellect is at war with the primitive brain in the hostile territory of the digital world where laws are silent and rules disappear in the midst of arms. Born in anarchy with an unquenchable bloodthirst we shudder to think what might rise up from the darkness.

Dear Gillian…

galetter

Querida Gillian,

estás total y completamente obsesionada contigo misma.

Yo. Tú. Nosotros.

P.D. Sigue tus sueños, no a tus novios.

Maybe we bury the dead alive

Scully: I was just thinking about something that a man said to me. That the.. that the dead speak to us from beyond the grave, that that what’s conscience is.
Mulder: It’s interesting, I never thought of it that way.
Scully: You know I thought… when we found him, this man that killed Melissa, that..that when we brought him to justice, I would feel some kind of closure. But the truth is no court.. no punishment is ever enough.
Mulder: I came here to tell you something (they start walking away) there may be some justice, just not the kind you’re looking for.
Scully: What are you talking about?
Mulder: They found this man, Luis Cardinal, dead in his cell.
Scully: How?

Mulder: They made it look like a suicide. The men he worked for couldn’t take the chance that he point his finger at them.
Scully: And what about Krycek?
Mulder: Oh he was there. I know that.
Scully: You think they got to him too.
Mulder: I don’t know, but if they haven’t they will. I doubt it’ll weight on their consciences though.
Scully: I think the dead are speaking to us Mulder, demanding justice. Maybe that man was right. Maybe we bury the dead alive.

The ritual

qod_conduit

Mulder: You know when I was a kid, I had this ritual. I closed my eyes before I walked into my room, cause I thought that one day when I opened them my sister would be there. Just lying in bed, like nothing ever happened. You know I’m still walking into that room, everyday of my life.

Too dark to see

To my dear beautiful daughter,

I’m writing you a letter. That’s right, a good old-fashioned letter. It’s a lost art, really. Like handjobs.

Shit.

I have a confession to make.

I didn’t like you very much at first. You were just this annoying, little blob. You smelled nice. Most of the time. But you didn’t seem to have much interest in me. Which I, of course, found vaguely insulting. It was you and your mom against the world. Funny how some things never change.

So I cruised along, doing my thing, acting the fool, not really understanding how being a parent changes you. And I don’t remember the exact moment everything changed. I just know that it did. One minute I was impenetrable. Nothing could touch me. The next, my heart was somehow beating outside my chest, exposed to the elements.

Loving you has been the most profound, intense, painful experience of my life. In fact, it’s been almost too much to bear.

As your father, I made a silent vow to protect you from the world, never realizing I was the one who would end up hurting you the most. When I flash forward, my heart breaks. Mostly because I can’t imagine you speaking of me with any sort of pride. How could you? Your father is a child in a man’s body. He cares for nothing and everything at the same time. Noble in thought, weak in action.

Something has to change. Something has to give.

It’s getting dark.

Too dark to see.

Californication – 4×02 Suicide Solution

The Sixth Extinction

qday_biogenesis

Scully: From Space, it seems an abstraction– a magician’s trick on a darkened stage. And from this distance one might never imagine that it is alive. It first appeared in the sea almost four billion years ago in the form of single-celled life. In an explosion of life spanning millions of years, nature’s first multicellular organisms began to multiply… and then it stopped. 440 million years ago, a great mass extinction would kill off nearly every species on the planet leaving the vast oceans decimated and empty. Slowly, plants began to evolve, then insects, only to be wiped out in the second great mass extinction upon the Earth. The cycle repeated again and again. Reptiles emerging, independent of the sea only to be killed off. Then dinosaurs, struggling to life along with the first birds, fish, and flowering plants – their decimations Earth’s fourth and fifth great extinctions. Only 100,000 years ago, Homo Sapiens appear– man.

From cave paintings to the bible to Columbus and Apollo 11, we have been a tireless force upon the earth and off cataloguing the natural world as it unfolds to us. Rising to a world population of over five billion people all descended from that original single cell, that first spark of life. But for all our knowledge, what no one can say for certain, is what or who ignited that original spark. Is there a plan, a purpose or a reason to our existence? Will we pass, as those before us, into oblivion, into the sixth extinction that scientists warn is already in progress? Or will the mystery be revealed through a sign, a symbol, a revelation?
